courtesy NASA ( i think )
so i found these photos and appropriated them
here's some more of the Himilayas
but instead of requesting data (which i could also do, apparently),
i'm just mucking about with a photo editor.
these are of the Amazon.
apparently you can request specific color-coded data like temperatures surrounding an active volcano,
deforestation over time, practically anything.
or you just scroll through their visual data base till you see something you like,
The where, why and when are besides the point.
some appropriate photos ( from me )

i'm thinking it's from @'89.

Rocks become Topography
Photos ( Gallery 2 )
Looking through my piles i found some really cool pics i had forgotten about.
i swear this boulder was so strange, almost like a flake of rust 6' x 3' x 3' weighing @ 1 1/2 tons.
Oddly enough, it had completely disappeared when i went back looking for it a week later.
