I don't know much, but events in the world around me
become fodder for art.
Before Ukraine, it was Trump and Covid.
Before that there was 9-11, Sadam and Bin-Laden.
I did something about Vietnam, way back when.
At the end of 2024, I find myself painting mushroom clouds.
I consider the works so derived, not so much political or social commentary,
as therapy.
"Put these sunflower seeds in your pocket...
so when you die..."
On the one year anniversary of the Ukraine War, i felt i needed to generate an image for an interaction between a Ukranian woman and a Russian soldier, soon after the invasion.
She told him to put sunflower seeds in his pocket, so they will grow from his dead body.
Sowing the Seeds of an Urban Myth...

I have, stuck in my head, images of Vietnam protesters putting flowers in guns, or people facing off with tanks in Tiananmen Square.
I wonder if that had anything to do with a bunch of photos and paintings I did of dead flowers. I know it was more than just a reference to a Rolling Stones song.
